German Doner Kebab, streamlining quick-serve efficiency with smart design.
German Doner Kebab (GDK) approached us to create five new quick-serve restaurants: Norwich, Leeds, Peterborough, Cambridge and Cobham, the last two inside service stations.
The goal was to create a consistent and recognisable brand experience while ensuring that the spaces were highly functional for both staff and customers. Efficient customer flow, fast order processing and an engaging customer experience were key priorities. The project required delivering a cohesive and scalable design that could be replicated across other locations while handling the operational demands of a high-traffic service station environment.
Four moves that transformed the space.
We carefully designed the layout to ensure an intuitive and seamless flow for customers from entry to ordering and collection points. The placement of self-service kiosks and seating areas was mapped out to minimise bottlenecks and maximise efficiency.
A detailed technical drawing pack was created, covering every aspect of the build. From lighting and signage installation, to kitchen equipment placement and joinery details. This ensured that contractors could work efficiently and accurately, avoiding delays and miscommunication.
We incorporated large digital screens, neon signage, and brand-consistent colour schemes to create a visually striking environment. This not only reinforced the GDK brand but also attracted attention from passing customers.
Industrial-style lighting fixtures and high-quality, durable materials were chosen to reflect the GDK brand's modern aesthetic while maintaining longevity under high footfall. Comfortable seating, atmospheric lighting, and clear zoning enhanced the overall customer experience.
All five restaurants opened successfully, delivering a consistent and engaging brand experience aligned with GDK’s global standards.
Our strategic design approach combined operational efficiency with brand experience, ensuring that GDK’s new quick-serve locations are positioned for long-term success across all five sites.
Designing for speed and experience.
In a quick-serve restaurant, good design has to do more than look good. Every decision can influence how quickly customers move through the space and how efficiently the team can operate. For German Doner Kebab, that meant carefully considering the journey from arrival and ordering through to collection and seating, while maintaining the bold, recognisable brand experience customers expect. The layouts, self-service kiosks, zoning, technical detailing and material choices were all designed around the demands of busy service station locations. The project shows how hospitality design can bring operational efficiency and customer experience together, creating spaces that work at pace without losing the personality of the brand.
